Start with assessment, not tooling
Before choosing tools, understand schema complexity, PL/SQL usage, extensions, data volume, integration timing and downtime tolerance. A migration fails when hidden complexity appears too late.
Validation is the real migration
Full-load and CDC success is not enough. Teams need row counts, reconciliation, application testing, performance baselines and rollback criteria before cutover.
Performance changes after platform change
Oracle and PostgreSQL optimise differently. SQL rewrites, indexes, statistics and transaction patterns should be reviewed as a first-class workstream, not as an afterthought.
